To allow various cabling works to be carried out in connection with the installation of broadband, Kent County Council has made an Order to temporarily prohibit through traffic on part of A291 Herne Street, Herne, Herne Bay.
A closure is planned from Saturday 2 September 2017 for up to 2 days. It is hoped works will be fully completed, but if not, then there will need to be a further closure on the following Saturday and Sunday.
A291 Herne Street will be closed to all through traffic between the junctions with School Lane and Albion Lane.
~ There will be no direct access between Canterbury and Herne Bay using the A291 during these works ~
The alternative route is via A291 Herne Street, Canterbury Road, Calcott Hill, Herne Bay Road, Sturry Hill, A28 Island Road, Staines Hill, Island Road, Canterbury Road (Sarre), St Nicholas Roundabout, A299 Thanet Way, A291 Canterbury Road and Herne Street
There will be additional signing on the Canterbury ring road to divert traffic via the A290 and A299/A2990 Thanet Way

Due to the nature of these works, it will not be possible to re-open the road outside the working hours.
Access to the remainder of A291 continues from either direction up to where the road is actually closed.
